Winterbotham Darby’s Film-Sealable Olive Pot

Winterbotham Darby is a well-established UK chilled food business, supplying a wide range of continental and deli products to retail and foodservice customers. Known for its innovative approach and speed to market, the business continues to invest in packaging solutions that support product quality, shelf life, and efficient production.

In chilled foods, sauces, and deli categories, tamper-evident clip-on lids are often used for new product launches, enabling rapid market entry without early investment in heat-sealing equipment. As volumes increase, producers typically move to film-sealed packaging to achieve improved protection, reduced oxygen exposure, extended shelf life, and greater efficiency in high-volume production.

The Brief

What the client was looking for

Winterbotham Darby commissioned Innavisions to develop a pot specifically designed for reliable film sealing, capable of delivering a consistent hermetic seal to protect freshness and extend shelf life. The packaging needed to support high-volume production while maintaining product integrity throughout distribution and storage.

The brief also required a format that balanced performance with material efficiency. Strong shelf presence, smooth surfaces suitable for high-quality labelling, and compatibility with recyclable materials were key considerations, alongside the flexibility to include consumer-friendly features such as reclosing after opening.

The Solution

What did we provide?

Innavisions developed a film-sealable olive pot by coordinating design, materials, and production through its network of specialist manufacturing partners, selecting Intopack for this project based on its technical capabilities and suitability for the application. The final 750ml pot features a 122.5mm diameter and a 100mm height, holding 342g of olives. A gentle taper provides strong shelf presence, while smooth, consistent walls support high-quality label application.

Manufactured in recyclable polypropylene, the pot weighs just 20.4g. Precision injection moulding delivers consistent wall thickness and a sturdy, reliable structure despite the lightweight design. Supplied with a convenient over-lid, the pack allows easy reclosing once the film seal is removed, helping consumers keep their olives fresh for longer. The solution enables extended shelf life, improved freshness, and longer, more efficient production cycles for Winterbotham Darby.
