Rodda’s Tamper Evident Catering Pack

Rodda’s is a fifth-generation family business, still producing Cornish clotted cream using the traditional method first introduced by Eliza Jane Rodda in 1890. As packaging formats evolved during the 1960s, lightweight polypropylene replaced glass, offering a practical solution for dairy products requiring heat during production. Today, polypropylene remains the ideal material for clotted cream, providing excellent heat resistance while preserving flavour and quality as the distinctive golden crust develops.

The Brief

What the client was looking for

Rodda’s approached Innavisions with a clear objective: to develop a high-quality catering pack that respected their traditional clotted cream production process while meeting modern performance, efficiency, and presentation requirements. The packaging needed to allow for heating during production, maximise surface area for forming the characteristic golden crust, and ensure there was no impact on flavour or product quality.

In addition to functional performance, the brief called for a premium appearance that reinforced consumer trust. Security features such as tamper evidence were essential, alongside strong shelf presence for catering and foodservice environments. The solution also needed to support efficient storage, handling, and distribution, without compromising on sustainability or recyclability.

The Solution

What did we provide?

Innavisions developed a bespoke square catering tub designed to meet each element of the brief, managing the project from concept through to delivery. The 1300ml format, measuring 193.7 × 193.7mm with a shallow 51mm depth, maximises heated surface area while maintaining product integrity. Precision injection moulding ensures consistency and strength, while the tub’s 44.8g weight supports improved storage and transport efficiency.

Drawing on our established network of specialist manufacturing partners, Innavisions specified a polypropylene material suitable for traditional heating processes, reliable performance in freezing conditions, and zero risk of flavour taint. Tamper-evident tabs and a clip-on in-mould labelled lid provide security and a premium finish. By coordinating design, materials, and production with the most appropriate suppliers for the application, Innavisions delivered a fully recyclable mono-material pack that enhances Rodda’s iconic blue and gold branding while supporting both product quality and brand heritage.
